Bachelor Of Business Administration (BBA)
– The Trainee Is A Valuable Asset To Your Company
A future business professional is looking for a work placement.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (210ECTS) is a Degree Programme on which both international and Finnish students can study business in English. This Programme combines the scientific business education with the best traditions of business expertise. Studies at Polytechnics are both science-oriented and practice-oriented with an emphasis on professional knowledge and development. Studies on the BBA Degree Programme emphasize professional business knowledge and development in co-operation with the working life. A part of this co-operation is a final thesis project, which meets the requirements of the working life as well as a training period, which enables the student to polish his/her skills.
After goal-conscious acquiring of basic knowledge and skills, which takes 2.5 years, the students are well prepared for work placement and can start working on their final thesis project.
At the Kuopio School of Business and Administration the students on the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme specialize in International Management. They study e.g. business management, management accounting, business law, economics, international business, computer skills, marketing, organizational studies and leadership. When the students are starting their work placement, they have already taken a large number of courses in languages and methodological studies in addition to their basic and specialized business studies. Now they are facing the challenge of participating in everyday business routines and operations, which will support their professional development.
The Trainee Is An Asset
The purpose of the training is to support the professional development of students, as well as to support the development of the employing company and to strengthen business knowledge in the company's development.
The work placement has the following objectives: The first objective is to familiarize the student with various business duties and tasks in practice. The second objective is seeking a research problem, a development project, or some other project for to enable the student to start working on the final thesis project during the training period. The tripartite co-operation benefits all parties. The final thesis project that meets the requirements of the working life motivates the student for objective-oriented work. The employer gets a research on the issue to be developed in the company and the school receives information on the requirements of the working life.
Work Placement And Final Thesis Project – A Useful Combination
The employing company and the trainee discuss the aims of the training period and the final thesis project. This results in confidential co-operation between all parties.
The duration of the student's work placement is 3 - 5 months depending on the student's previous work experience. The work placement can take place in any company as well as in a community where there are duties or projects which will enhance the students professional development. The training is supervised by a representative of the employer in cooperation with the supervisor at the Savonia UAS. During the work placement the student takes down notes in a diary and, at the end of the training period, writes a report on the work placement.
The employer and the trainee sign a written work placement contract, which is to be approved by the supervisor on behalf of the Savonia UAS. The trainee works under the guidance and supervision of the employer.
The work placement is part of the student's studies. If an official work contract is made and a salary paid, the employer will be responsible for meeting the terms and regulations governed by the legislation, such as insurances. If the trainee is not paid a salary, he or she is covered by the accident insurance of the Savonia UAS during the working hours if the student's official residence is in Finland, while the employer is responsible for arranging the liability insurance during the work placement period.
