# Savonia University of Applied Sciences Proudly Unveils the Innovations of Neptune Project 2024; Inhabiting Terschelling

> Under the theme “Inhabiting Terschelling,” twenty-two bright students from different countries came together for an extraordinary 8-day workshop focused on sustainable living and innovative design.

## Overview of the Neptune Project 2024
Savonia University of Applied Sciences has once again taken the helm of the forward-thinking Neptune Project 2024, with the invaluable collaboration of industry leaders and academic partners. “NEPTUNE” (Network for Environmental Projects in Technology, UNited in Europe) visited the island of Terschelling, Netherlands, which served as the backdrop for a fusion of minds and talents from across the globe. Led by Grytsje Schaaf and supported by a constellation of experts from partner institutions, this edition focused on creativity, sustainability, and architectural marvel.

## Workshop Theme and Participants
Under the theme “Inhabiting Terschelling,” twenty-two students from prestigious universities in Finland, Slovenia, France, and the Netherlands formed multidisciplinary teams for an 8-day workshop. The students were guided by the following mentors:
* **Mervi Heikkinen** (Savonia University of Applied Sciences)
* **Samo Lorber** (University of Maribor)
* **Gauthier Daval** (ECAM Lasalle)
* **Kor Visser** (NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences)

The participants worked to transform the Campus Victoria area, focusing on sustainability and creative thinking.

## Project Objectives
The students engaged in sessions with the project client, **Johan Thijssen**, to address the goal of integrating eco-friendly materials and innovative designs to enhance public spaces and foster a sense of community. The project emphasized environmental stewardship and the reimagining of the Terschelling environment by blending nature with human ingenuity.

## Winning Team
The workshop concluded with a jury selection process. The winner for Neptune Project 2024 is **Team Stroopwafel**, supervised by Mervi Heikkinen. The team was recognized for projects that combined minimal spatial interventions with a deep respect for the natural and architectural heritage of Terschelling. Their proposals offered versatile spaces adaptable to different times, seasons, and spontaneous community use.

## Conclusion
The Neptune Project 2024 highlighted the possibilities of sustainable living and the value of diverse collaboration.
