# National user survey of UAS libraries - results - Savonia AMK

> The national user survey of UAS libraries 19.9.–14.10.2022 surveyed customers’ opinions of library services. A total of 512 responses were received from Savonia.

## Survey Overview
The national user survey of UAS libraries, conducted between September 19 and October 14, 2022, gathered 512 responses from Savonia, an increase from previous years. Nearly 86% of respondents identified Kuopio Campus Library Opus as their primary library, followed by Iisalmi (12.3%) and Varkaus (2.2%). The majority of respondents were Finnish-speaking first- or second-year students.

## Library Usage Patterns
*   **Hybrid Usage:** 82% of users utilize the library both on-site and online.
*   **Frequency:** 38% of users access library services weekly or daily.
*   **Primary Activities:** Borrowing/returning/reserving material (78%), using Finna (75%), and independent study/work (61%).
*   **Format Preference:** E-books and e-journals are used more frequently than printed materials.

Respondents rated services on a scale of 1 to 5.

## Identified Gaps and Improvements
The survey identified small gaps between the importance of services and their success, specifically regarding materials, the Finna search service, and facilities.

*   **Materials:** Users reported issues with e-book loan periods, downloading difficulties, license limitations for concurrent users, and general usability.
*   **Navigation:** Some users found locating books on shelves difficult. A new floor plan for Campus Library Opus is being integrated into Savonia-Finna to assist with mapping.
*   **Finna Search Service:** Difficulties with Finna were primarily reported by users who had not attended library training sessions.
*   **Facilities:** There is a demand for more peaceful study spaces. The Iisalmi Campus Library is currently undergoing a renewal to become a "nature campus," incorporating natural elements into the interior design.

## Impact on Studies
Respondents emphasized that the library is essential for their academic success:
*   **Material Access:** The library provides necessary materials that would otherwise be costly to purchase.
*   **Information Literacy:** The library assists in finding reliable information.
*   **Study Environment:** The library serves as a vital space for both independent and group work.

## Customer Loyalty
*   **Recommendation Score:** The average likelihood to recommend library services to a fellow student was 8.93 (on a scale of 0–10).
*   **Net Promoter Score (NPS):** Savonia achieved an NPS of 62, surpassing the UAS library average of 60. An NPS above 50 is considered excellent.
