# Fourth-graders at Savonia’s Technology Center: “It’s amazing that a robot can be coded to play cross zero”

## School Visit to Microkatu Campus

On April 25, 2023, 23 students and two teachers from the 4th grade of Kuopio Christian School visited Savonia’s Microkatu campus to learn about the university's technological offerings. During the visit, the students toured the 3D printing facilities, the IoT robotics laboratory, and the XR Center.

## Student Experiences

The students were particularly impressed by the robotics demonstrations:

* **Naana Ampen:** “I think it’s pretty amazing that a robot can be coded to play cross zero against a human.”
* **Santeri Ikonen:** “None of us won it, the best was a draw.”

The visit also sparked interest in future career paths among the students:

* **Lily Adomako:** “I could become an architect one day, it seems like an interesting career.”
* **Eveliina Matilainen:** “Likewise, an architect or an archaeologist.”

## Strengthening Local Ties

The visit was organized following a suggestion made at a parent-teacher meeting by Savonia lecturer Rajeev Kanth, whose daughter attends the school.

“Savonia cares about the primary schools in the area and we hope to have good relationships with them,” says Kanth. “Of course, at the same time, I want to help young people to think that technology could be an interesting career option.”
