| Objectives | The student is able to -observe the legislation, decrees and official instructions concerning health care in Finland and promote patient safety in his or her work -explain and analyse the factors related to examination, monitoring and maintenance of a patient’s vital functions -explain and implement infection control methods and practices in perioperative nursing and assess the problems caused by the lack of infection control -apply knowledge when preparing and mentoring a patient for surgical treatment: apply knowledge in surgical and anaesthetic nursing and in postoperative nursing care -implement safe administration of medication, fluid therapy and blood transfusion and explain the principles by giving examples -perform the required drug calculations accurately -assess the significance of multi-professional cooperation when nursing perioperative patients |
| Content | Anaesthetic nursing in different surgical specialities (5 ECTS) An elective patient, ambulatory surgery, extended day surgery patient and an emergency patient, infection control, pain treatment, different anaesthetic forms, medication and fluid therapy and blood transfusion, monitoring and securing vital functions, information systems and documentation and reporting, safe equipment and safe working methods, multi-professional co-operation and communication Perioperative nursing in different surgical specialities (5 ECTS) An elective patient, ambulatory surgery, extended day surgery patient and an emergency patient, professional competence of a perioperative nurse, infection control, patient safety, communication and documentation, IT -systems and documentation, Pre-operation preparations, surgical treatment techniques, drug therapy, surgery positions and emergency nursing actions in OT, multi-professional co-operation and communication. |
