| Objectives | After the studies the student is able to -assess and develop his or her own counselling skills as a counsellor, mentor and health promotor -use various counselling methods in different ways -work as a counsellor/mentor/health promotor in different operational environments -assess the need for service counselling and self-care and utilize multiform, topical, respectful and resource-oriented counselling interventions in health promotion -evaluate competence and personal development -give feedback constructively to promote professional competence |
| Content | The concepts of counselling, mentoring and health promotion and their scope. Different learning styles and counselling methods. A social and health care professional as a student counsellor and mentor. Participatory approach recognizing the client´s needs and promoting responsibility. Respectful encountering as well as dialogical and resource-oriented interaction with a client. Ethics in counselling. Service counselling. Digital solutions supporting a client´s self-care. Planning, implementing and assessing of interventions in counselling, mentoring or health promotion. Professional development. Giving feedback and evaluation. |
| Requirements | The student practises working as a counsellor, mentor or health promotor in accordance with the plan in different operational environments of working life, organizations, associations, foundations, private and public service providers and projects. The internship is completed e.g. at Savonia VireTori or other similar health promoting national or international health and social care units, projects or service counselling places, at camp activities, sports and rehabilitation, preventive work (e.g. family work, mental health work, substance abuse work), groups for clients with special needs, support services for immigrants, church social work, voluntary work and probation and after-care. The internship includes assignments related to the objectives and activities, competence demonstration, planning, implementation and assessment of an individual or group intervention and reporting on the internship. |
