Objectives The student is able to
-describe the importance of the nursing values and fundamental nursing concepts as the basis of nursing care
-name the basic concepts of nursing science
-identify the elements of safe and ethical interaction
-assess the client’s nursing needs and take appropriate nursing actions in different situations and environments
-explain the ABCDE method when examining the patient’s basic vital functions and the ISBAR method when reporting on them
-explain the importance of functional ability and rehabilitative care in welfare promotion
-document nursing in line with the nursing process model and national documentation model
-describe the factors influencing patient safety and understand the importance of HaiPro
-identify the aetiologic and pathophysiological factors of diseases
-understand the functions of microbes in immune defense systems
-explain the factors related to food hygiene and the most common microbes that cause food poisoning
-explain the factors and the importance of infection control on a personal level and in patient care in different environments
-explain the infections related to the care of different patient groups, current support measures in view of infections as well as isolation and precaution
-The student is also aware of the vaccinations used in the national vaccination programme. He or she is aware of the national instructions related to health and welfare promotion as well as of the nutrition and physical activity recommendations.

ContentBasic concepts of nursing science, professional and therapeutic interaction, nursing ethics, mentoring the client/patient, patient safety, nursing assessment and interventions, nutrition and physical activity in health promotion, nursing documentation.Microbes in nursing, the basic mechanisms of diseases, protection against infections, infection prevention and related legislation, national vaccination programmes, personal and food hygiene
