InnoCities Survey Highlights Finland’s Regional Water Expertise
A recent survey conducted under the InnoCities Water Expertise Lead Theme has mapped the strengths of water-related expertise across Finland. The survey provides a comprehensive overview of regional specialisations and supports future collaboration and development within the water sector.
The results highlight strong regional water ecosystems across the country. In Kuopio, water expertise is closely connected to the needs of industry, agriculture and water security. Savonia University of Applied Sciences plays a key role in developing water treatment technologies as well as solutions related to the digitalisation and cybersecurity of water systems. The Kuopio water cluster also benefits from the expertise of the University of Eastern Finland, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK).
The survey helps identify regional strengths, promotes cooperation between water clusters and contributes to building a stronger national water expertise network. The long-term goal is to create a shared understanding of Finland’s water-related capabilities and support sustainable growth and innovation in the sector.
