Welcome to Savonia
We’re delighted to welcome you to Savonia. There’s a lot to organise and learn when you start your studies, so we’ve brought together the most important things you need to know and do before you begin and during your first few weeks.

Can I receive credit for my previous studies?
Possibly. The recognition of prior learning is assessed within your field of study after your studies have begun.
At the beginning of your studies, a personal study plan is prepared for you based on your prior learning, the structure of your degree and your own goals. As a general rule, previous higher education studies to be recognised should be at the same EQF level as a Bachelor’s degree at Savonia, which is level 6.
Not all of your previous studies can necessarily be recognised as part of your degree. Based on your personal study plan, you will be placed in a study group that best matches the studies you need to complete.
Can I start directly in the second year?
Your previous studies may reduce the time needed to complete your degree, but you will not automatically be placed directly in a specific year of study.
At the beginning of your studies, your prior learning will be assessed and a personal study plan will be prepared. Based on this plan, it will be determined which studies you need to complete at Savonia and which study group you will join.
Does Savonia provide student accommodation, and how do I apply for housing?
Savonia does not have its own student accommodation. Students can apply for housing from student housing providers depending on the city where they study.
Apartments are usually unfurnished. Affordable furniture and household items can often be found second-hand at flea markets and second-hand shops.

Can I work while studying, and can Savonia help me find a job?
Your studies are full-time, but you may be able to work alongside them, depending on your circumstances and any restrictions related to your residence permit.
Finding a job in Finland can take time, and many roles require Finnish language skills. Savonia does not find jobs for students, but we can support you with your job search, career planning and understanding Finnish working culture.
