| Description | Traditionally, automation and robotics have been part of industrial production lines, installed
in fixed setups to perform specific tasks. Since then, automation and robotics have evolved alongside digitalisation, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as a new driver that has brought autonomous functionality and a wider range of applications to robotics. This project focuses on developing robotics and AI to enhance the autonomous mobility of systems on land and in the air. The development integrates smart drone technology with autonomous mobile robotics. Smart drone technology emphasizes the autonomous movement, data processing, and sensor technologies of flying drones. The project is implemented by Savonia University of Applied Sciences Ltd. It is a regional project in Northern Savonia, aimed at advancing the region's digitalisation and promoting the use of robotics, AI, and automation in various sectors, including agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, environmental services, defense, police, rescue services, and emergency medical services. The AI-drone system focuses on autonomous flying systems and their applications in agriculture, safety operations, rescue missions, and environmental monitoring or assessment. The system is used to study environmental conditions by capturing images of areas with specialized cameras. Measurements can also be conducted using other sensors, such as an Xray fluorescence meter (XRF). A good example of the applications of drone and robotic systems is in the rescue and police sectors. In the future, AI-powered robots in rescue operations or police support roles could play |
