Description | According to the Regional Program in North Savo, there is a strong need to develop digitalisation, which is seen as a key factor in renewing the region's business sector and enhancing competitiveness. The aim is to utilise smart technologies and digital solutions, such as data analytics and IoT solutions, especially in the bioeconomy and circular economy. The development of digitalisation also supports the availability of labour and the strengthening of competence. The project responds to the need to promote data collection methods and to make data more usable and understandable in order to promote sustainable development in the North Savo region.
The project promotes companies' business operations in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. In particular, the project aims to develop good practices and operating models that promote Finland's carbon neutrality goals for 2035. The goals are more advanced sustainability reporting: the project deepens sustainability reporting practices so that SMEs can better respond to the responsibility requirements of markets and regulation. This increases companies' competitive advantage and supports sustainable development throughout the business chain. Another objective is to utilise real-time data in decision-making: the project will develop the use of data especially in promoting the circular economy, sustainability reporting, energy consumption and monitoring traffic flows. The project supports co-development with the aim of planning with sector-specific business groups how open data and data analysis and utilization support the achievement of sustainability goals. The project uses data analytics to promote the transition to sustainable energy, logistics and transport solutions, waste stream management and bio-waste sorting in cooperation with waste management companies and companies. The project collects data not only from companies and public organizations, but also utilizes open data sources. At the same time, it analyzes information collected from research projects and informs companies and residents of Northern Savo about sustainable development projects and their impacts. The project develops SME sustainability reporting in line with the subcontracting requirements of large companies, promotes decision-making based on real-time data, and strengthens business networking. The project targets companies that invest in sustainable development measures, such as sustainable energy solutions, recycling, production, research and development, sustainable housing, tourism and transport. The companies in the target group represent the following industries: real estate, construction, transport and logistics, waste management, IT, renewable energy, biological composting and tourism services. Some of the actors are public organizations that cooperate with companies in the SME sector. At the heart of the activity are two main questions: how to encourage companies to move towards more sustainable solutions in their operations and how to implement data analytics expertise in companies and public organizations to promote the utilization of data. Companies often accumulate a lot of data that is left unused. Operators need both visibility for their sustainable development activities and modern IoT solutions and data analysis to support their business.
