| Description | BIOPRO365 investment project will acquire the necessary equipment for R&D activities on peat-free soil improvers and recycled fertilizers. The project addresses the need to support business adaptation to climate change and the realization of a carbon-neutral circular economy in North Savo.Savonia University of Applied Sciences’ Bio and circular economy research area has developed its laboratory capacity in Kuopio’s Savilahti through the establishment of a new Bio and circular economy laboratory. The laboratory provides extensive facilities for bioprocessing and multi-element analysis, including nutrients, trace elements, and heavy metals. It serves the regional economy, companies, and research organizations by offering research services and biorefining technologies for biomass utilization and new product development, as well as nutrient and trace element analytics for the development of soil improvers and recycled fertilizers.The objective of the BIOPRO365 investment project’s climate-controlled growth chamber is to enable year-round plant cultivation, the development of peat-free growing media, and the cost-efficient testing of bioeconomy side streams for new product development. To support the creation of peat-free circular economy products, a growth chamber suitable for year-round use will be built in close proximity to Savonia’s laboratory as part of this paired investment project. The growth chamber allows for the modeling of critical factors such as water retention capacity and nutrient recycling from bioeconomy side streams into growing substrates. It provides controlled conditions for plant growth, focusing on key parameters such as temperature, humidity, and light regulation.The Savilahti Bio and circular economy competence cluster offers services tailored to business needs to support growth and development in the circular economy sector.In this investment phase of the project pair, the focus is on constructing the growth chamber and integrating it as part of a service-providing entity for circular economy solutions. The project advances and speeds up research-based product development for companies. |
| Partners | Hankkeen varsinaiset kohderyhmät ovat pohjoissavolaiset bio- ja kiertotalouden yritykset, palveluyritykset, toiminnanharjoittajat, maa- ja metsätalouden harjoittajat sekä oppi- ja tutkimuslaitokset. Lisäksi kohderyhmänä ovat bio- ja kiertotalouden toimijat laajemmin kansallisesti. Uusimpana tulokkaana kohderyhmissä ovat jo toiminnassa olevat biokaasulaitokset, jotka kaipaavat apua laitoksen käsittelyjäännöksen ravinnetasapainon ja biokaasuntuotantoon soveltuvien kasvien tutkimustyössä.Hankkeen kohderyhmää ovat erityisesti biotalouden toimijat, uusia innovaatioita alalle kehittävät startup-yritykset, pk-yritykset sekä suuremmat veturiyritykset, vihreän siirtymän yritykset ja toimijat, jotka vievät yrityksiä kohti kestävää kasvua ja hiilineutraalia yhteiskuntaa. Tulevaisuudessa ympäristövastuullisuus, hiilineutraalisuus ja kiertotalous tulevat korostumaan yritysten toiminnassa entisestään sekä näiden seurauksena kiertotalousliiketoiminta tulee korostumaan. Viimeksi mainittu nähdään vielä yritysten toiminnassa hyvinkin vieraana työkaluna, kiertotaloutta ei tulekaan käsitellä yhtenäisenä liiketoimintamallina, vaan se tarjoaa erilaisia lähestymistapoja ja mahdollisuuksia hyödyntää resursseja tehokkaasti ja luoda kestävää taloudellista arvoa. Kiertotalouden myötä neitseellisten materiaalien käyttö laskee sivuvirtojen käytön tehostuessa. |
