Alumni Greetings!

I’m excited to share my journey from Nepal to Savonia University of Applied Sciences and how my time here has shaped my nursing career.

I chose Savonia after doing some research for my higher education and finding out it’s one of the best universities of applied sciences in Finland. Coming from Nepal with a nursing background and four years of experience as a Registered Nurse, I was keen on furthering my nursing education and skills.

I’ve always been passionate about healthcare, and nursing felt like the perfect choice for me personally because I love taking care of and making positive impact in people’s lives. During our studies we learned about surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, perioperative nursing, and gerontological nursing, all the time getting a balanced learning experience by combining theory and hands-on practice. During our studies we also focused on evidence-based practice, leadership, and entrepreneurship in healthcare. These aspects not only broadened my view but also equipped me with the skills to handle real-world challenges and contribute to healthcare.

One of the challenges I faced was learning Finnish language. While English is commonly used in academic contexts, knowledge in Finnish is essential for effective communication in clinical settings.

Balancing nursing studies and part-time job was also very challenging for me. Working in a multicultural setting, excellent communication was critical for providing high-quality care. The experience of working with colleagues from all backgrounds and meeting with patients from other cultures was extremely beneficial to my professional development.

Communication skills, ongoing learning, and professionalism were vital parts of the curriculum, preparing us for the dynamic healthcare environment. Internships were diverse and gave practical experience, building a strong professional identity. Working with international colleagues was a highlight, bringing a global perspective to healthcare. Group work was crucial, teaching us teamwork and collaboration, which are essential in nursing. It mimicked real-world situations and prepared us for working in diverse teams. Now, I’m confidently applying the skills learned at Savonia in my current role and looking forward to my upcoming nursing career. In conclusion, Savonia University of Applied Sciences has played a crucial role in shaping my nursing career. I’m proud to be a Savonia international nursing student and grateful for the education and experiences I have gained.

A special thanks to the teachers, mentors, friends, and everyone on campus for making my journey unforgettable. Thank you for your guidance, sharing your knowledge and support which has been truly inspiring. I’m very thankful for the education, memories, and lessons that I learned.

Best regards
