Declaration on Open Science and Research – Reliable information and open access require concrete actions

Reliable information and transparency cannot be taken for granted – that is why we must consciously commit to them.

Savonia’s Rector Mervi Vidgrén signed the Declaration on Open Science and Research for 2026–2030. The declaration confirms Savonia’s long-term commitment to open, responsible, and socially beneficial research.

Savonia contributes to social debate by producing new information in an open and accessible manner: through open publications, open data, and open learning materials. A particularly good example of the open science activities typical of a university of applied sciences are the theses written by students.

Open theses demonstrate the expertise produced by education as well as the impact and quality of activities. They also reach a wide audience: Savonia’s theses have been downloaded from Theseus more than 11.5 million times. Would you be interested in topics such as occupational safety for agricultural entrepreneurs, the use of artificial intelligence in renovation construction, a pocket guide to first aid, kitchen renovation planning, safe medication for the elderly, or the use of honey in veterinary medicine?
