Technology Management Studies Support Ismo Leivo’s Career at FinVector: “Studying Brings a New Kind of Capital”
Ismo Leivo had been considering pursuing a Master’s degree for some time, but he wanted to wait for the right moment to continue his studies. When both his career and life outside of work settled into balance, he applied to Savonia University of Applied Sciences to study for a Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Leivo works as a Logistics Team Lead at FinVector and enjoys his work immensely.
“I simply want to develop my skills so I can perform my job even better. In addition, studying brings me a new kind of personal capital,” Leivo sums up his reasons for continuing his education.
His earlier degree is also from Savonia. He graduated as a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical and Production Technology in 2008. What he remembers most from his student days is the sense of community among classmates and an internship abroad.
“I spent four months in Budapest, Hungary, and travelled widely across Europe. Going abroad was a great experience. Opportunities like that don’t often come after graduation,” Leivo says.
A Good Team Leads to Better Results
At FinVector, Leivo’s work involves managing operations — ensuring the daily production schedule of his department is followed and continuously developing warehouse operations in accordance with GMP requirements. He and his team handle material reception, picking, storage, and shipments.
“My higher education studies have benefited my career in many ways. During my studies, we completed projects for real companies, which provided important contacts and practical experience in how things are done in business,” Leivo explains.
Leivo is clearly proud of his team. He describes how they have been responsible for developing and implementing warehouse operations in FinVector’s new Finport building — and integrating these new practices into daily routines.
“I don’t make all the decisions myself. We do things together. We have a great team with excellent spirit and a wide range of expertise,” he says.
Leivo can complete both his Master’s thesis and other study projects at FinVector, which means his employer also benefits from the development work he carries out during his studies. He already has a clear idea of his thesis topic.
Finally, he encourages those studying for their first degree to make the most of every opportunity their studies offer.
“Networking during your studies is important. It’s worth getting involved with the business world already while studying, because you never know where new connections and experiences may lead later.”
