Pitkään tummaan takkiin pukeutunut nainen seisoo yöllä juhlavalla, hyvin valaistulla kaupunkikadulla. Hänen yläpuolellaan roikkuu koristeellisia valonjohtoja, ja ihmiset kävelevät valaistuja rakennuksia ja raitiovaunukiskoja pitkin hänen takanaan.

From Nepal to Finland: My Journey Toward Becoming a Nurse

Sabita’s Student Story

I am Sabita, and I am currently studying nursing as a first-year student at Savonia University of Applied Sciences. Beginning my studies in 2025 marked one of the most important milestones in my life. For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of becoming a nurse — someone who can bring comfort, support, and quality care to people during their most vulnerable moments. That dream guided me from Nepal all the way to Finland, and today, studying nursing at one of Finland’s most respected universities feels like the perfect place to turn my aspirations into reality.

Choosing nursing was not simply an academic decision for me — it was a calling. I have always been fascinated by the human body, health sciences, and the meaningful impact that healthcare professionals have on individuals and communities. When I learned about Savonia’s strong reputation, modern learning environment, and high-quality nursing program, I knew it was the right place to build my future.

Studying at Savonia has been a truly transformative experience. The program is designed to prepare students for real working life through a combination of theory, hands-on practice, and reflective learning. In the first year, we study subjects such as anatomy and physiology, nursing fundamentals, pharmacology, communication in healthcare, ethics, and various clinical skills. We learn through lectures, simulations, skills labs, group projects, and guided self-study. Each course strengthens not only our knowledge but also our ability to think critically and act responsibly.

As a student, Savonia expects independence, discipline, and motivation. Time management is essential, as the program includes regular assignments, practical exercises, and teamwork. However, the learning environment is approachable and supportive. Teachers encourage questions, classmates help one another, and there are many opportunities to seek guidance. This balanced combination of challenge and support makes me more confident every day.

Adjusting to life in Finland was both exciting and demanding. The culture, climate, and educational style were very different from what I was used to in Nepal. The long winters, the quiet social environment, and learning a new language felt overwhelming at times. But I reminded myself that growth comes from stepping outside our comfort zone. I found strength by staying open-minded, asking for help when needed, and focusing on my goals. With time, I learned to enjoy the peaceful Finnish lifestyle, the safety, the equality, and the opportunities available for students. Today, Finland feels like a second home to me.

After graduation, my goal is to work as a registered nurse in Finland, contributing to the healthcare system that has inspired me so deeply. I am particularly interested in hospital care, elderly care, and emergency nursing, and I hope to continue my studies in the future to specialize further. Ultimately, I want to build a meaningful career where I can help people, support communities, and continue learning throughout my life.

To future students who wish to apply to Savonia or study in Finland, my advice is to stay determined and trust in your potential. Prepare all your documents carefully, improve your language skills, research your desired program thoroughly, and do not hesitate to ask for guidance. Studying abroad may bring challenges, but it also opens doors to incredible opportunities. With dedication, hard work, and a positive mindset, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.

From Nepal to Finland, my journey has been a story of courage, curiosity, and dreams taking shape. Today, as a nursing student at Savonia University of Applied Sciences, I am proud of how far I have come and excited for everything that lies ahead.

Follow your dreams, and they will lead you exactly where you are meant to be.

Pitkät tummat hiukset omaava nainen seisoo valkoisen kirjahyllyn vieressä ja lukee punaista kirjaa. Hänellä on yllään musta bleiseri ja valkoinen toppi. Hänen vieressään on punaisia ja vihreitä kirjoja täynnä olevia hyllyjä, ja taustalla on vaaleanpunainen tuoli.
Nuori nainen, jolla on suorat ruskeat hiukset, ottaa peiliselfien kylpyhuoneessa. Hänellä on yllään pitkähihainen ruskea toppi ja siniset farkut, ja hän pitää oikeassa kädessään mustaa puhelinta. Taustalla on vaaleanharmaat seinät ja puinen ovi.
