From Nepal to Finland: My Path to Becoming a Nurse

Prasara’s Student Story

Hello!  I am a first-year nursing student from Nepal. I started my studies at Savonia University of Applied Sciences in August 2025, and it has been an exciting and transformative experience so far.

I chose to study nursing because I have always been passionate about helping people and making a difference in their lives. When I researched international programs, I discovered Savonia and was impressed by its high-quality nursing education, modern facilities, and supportive environment for international students. I felt it was the perfect place to develop my professional skills and pursue my dream of becoming a nurse.

Studying at Savonia is both challenging and rewarding. The program combines theoretical knowledge and practical training, covering subjects such as anatomy, physiology, nursing skills, patient care, and healthcare ethics. As a student, I am expected to actively participate in classes, complete assignments on time, and engage fully in practical training that prepares me for real-world healthcare work. The teachers are supportive, and working together with fellow students from different backgrounds has been a valuable part of the learning experience.

Adjusting to life in Finland had its challenges. The cold weather and cultural differences were difficult at first, and adapting to a new language environment took time. I overcame these challenges by connecting with other international students, participating in orientation activities, and exploring the local community. Finland’s safe, welcoming environment and the support from Savonia’s staff made the adjustment much easier, and now I feel at home.

After graduation, I plan to work as a registered nurse in Finland and gain experience in other countries as well. My goal is to provide high-quality healthcare while learning from different healthcare systems around the world.

My advice to future students is to research your program carefully, be ready to adapt to a new culture, and take full advantage of the resources and support Savonia offers. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, connect with peers, and embrace every opportunity to grow. Studying abroad is a big step, but it is also an unforgettable and highly rewarding experience.
