Student selection in the Additional Direct Application in China

The Additional Direct Application starts on 17 April 2024 and closes on 24 April 2024.

The student selection in the Additional Direct Application is based on personal interview. It is not possible to use the SAT test score or the International UAS Exam result in the Direct Application.

Applications will be processed after the application period has ended. An applicant is eligible to the next step of the process, the personal interview, if she/he 

• has the eligibility to apply in the Direct application
• has uploaded a copy of an official and valid passport / ID-card on the application form  

The invitation to the personal interview is sent by email at least a week before the interview.

• Applicant’s motivation and English skills will be tested in the interview. 
• Interviews are organized on 19 – 20 May 2024 only in Shanghai, China. It is not possible to organize the interview in any other location or online.
• If the applicant fails to participate in the interview, it cannot be re-organized.

The results of the student selection will be published by 7 June 2024.

If the applicant successfully completes the interview, she/he can be admitted to Savonia UAS. The applicant has 7 days’ time to accept the study place. If the applicant does not accept the study place within 7 days of being admitted to Savonia UAS, she/he will lose the study place.  Please note, that if you accept a study place in the Direct Application, you cannot accept another study place in the Joint Application spring 2024. More information on the One study place per term provision.

If the applicant accepts the study place, she/he will receive information on starting studies. If the student is obligated to pay the tuition fee, she/he receives payment details by email.  

If the applicant fails the interview, she/he will not be admitted to Savonia UAS. In addition, the applicant cannot re-apply to Savonia UAS during the ongoing Direct Application period. However, the applicant can apply to Savonia UAS in the next Joint Application or in the next Direct Application.  

Student selection in the Direct Application to Bachelor of Hospitality Management, spring 2024

The Direct application period starts on 1 March 2024. The application period ends when the group is full, but on 30 April 2024 at the latest.

The student selection in the Direct Application is based on personal interview. It is not possible to use the SAT test score or the International UAS Exam result in the Direct Application.

Applications will be processed on a weekly basis in the order of arrival. An applicant is eligible to the next step of the process, the personal interview, if she/he 

• has the eligibility to apply in the direct application 
• has uploaded a copy of an official ID on the application form 

The invitation to the personal interview is sent by email at least a week before the interview.

• Applicant’s motivation and English skills will be tested in the interview. 
• Interviews to Bachelor of Hospitality Management are organized only at Microkatu campus, Kuopio Finland. It is not possible to organize the interview in any other location or online.
• If the applicant fails to participate in the interview, it cannot be re-organized.

The results of the student selection will be published continuously, whenever the interviews have been held and the results are ready.

Student selection in the Direct Application 2023

The Direct application period started on 1 November and ended on 14 December 2023. The student selection in the Direct Application is based on personal interview. All invitations to interviews have been sent and interviews will no longer be organized.

Technical requirements in the online interview

The applicant is responsible for making sure that the equipment meets the following criteria. To attend the interview, you need to have: 

• a computer (a desktop computer or laptop, or a mobile device or tablet) 
• stable internet access (and stable supply of electricity) 
• a web camera 
• a headset (or microphone and speakers) 
• (mouse, power cable) 

Other technical things to consider: 

• Recommended browsers are Firefox, Chrome or Edge. If the link does not open, please change the browser. 
• If you are joining the interview with a mobile device, please make sure that you have installed Zoom to your device. 
• It is recommended that you test the Zoom beforehand. You can join a test meeting provided by Zoom to familiarize yourself with it. 

The UAS is not responsible nor has any legal liability if the equipment and/or connections do not meet the above-described criteria, and the interview is interrupted, or the applicant cannot finish it due to this. 

Before the interview, it is good to make sure that: 

• you have a quiet environment and optimal lighting for clear sound and image, 
• the video and headset (or microphone and speakers) are working, 
• you know how to turn off your virtual background and/or virtual filters, 
• you have the needed identification document in the interview.
