| Objectives | The student • explains the principles of elderly patients’ oral health check-ups and their oral health care-related special features and needs • assesses the personality and functional capacity as well as any possible functional limitations of an elderly patient when planning his or her oral health care and implementing the plan • understands the importance of nutrition for the oral health care of the elderly • explains the effect of polypharmacy on oral health • describes different types of oral health care-related cooperation with care institutions and home care personnel • assists a patient to transfer from a wheelchair into a dental chair • provides oral health counselling for the elderly or nursing staff • defines the etiology, diagnostic methods, symptoms and treatment methods of geriatric diseases and applies that information to his or her work |
