Becoming a degree student through path studies

Open university path studies offer an alternative route to becoming a degree student. You can apply to be a degree student in Savonia’s separate application once you have completed at least 60 ECTS of studies at Savonia open UAS. Completed open UAS studies are credited towards the degree.

The scope of path studies is 60 credits and the right to study is 12 months. As a rule, the studies must be completed in this time. As an UAS path student, you basically study your first year studies with a group of degree students.

There is no basic education requirement for UAS path studies, but aptitude for some fields of study is required (e.g. music and dance). Path study places are available for almost all degree programs and the offering varies every year. The limited number of study places are filled in order of registration. Transferred credits can’t be included in path studies.

Enrollment in path studies

Path studies are published and registered for in the study calendar.

Enrollment time for Savonia path studies starting in autumn 2025 is August 6-13, 2025.

The path study fee is 350 euros, which must be paid within 2 days of registration. The student is responsible for all costs during the studies.

Subsidies and benefits

Studying at the open university of applied sciences does not entitle you to student financial aid or student benefits. If you are an unemployed job seeker, please contact employment services of your place of residence before your enrollment. After your path studies, you are entitled to the benefits of a university degree student.
