Engineering the Future: My Journey in Information Technology at Savonia – Eresha’s Student Story
Hi! I am Eresha. I am studying Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology (Internet of Things) at Savonia University of Applied Sciences. I started my studies in September 2025.
I discovered Savonia through one of my friends who told me about studying in Finland. After that conversation, I decided to do my own research. While exploring different options, I carefully went through the curriculum on the Savonia University of Applied Sciences website. That was the moment I realized that Savonia offered exactly what I was looking for.
I have a strong passion for learning Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. I wanted to update myself with the latest technological developments and enhance my knowledge and skills so that I could apply them in a practical, real-world environment. The IoT-focused Information Technology program at Savonia matched my goals perfectly.
Choosing Information Technology with a specialization in IoT was a natural decision for me, as it allows me to combine my previous experience with new, future-oriented technologies.
Before starting my studies at Savonia, I had already worked in the IT industry. However, due to family commitments, I had to quit my job. After a couple of years, I realized that it was the right time to re-enter the industry. I wanted to update my knowledge and gain new skills in order to work again in a professional and modern IT environment.
Studying at Savonia feels like being in my second home. The university offers high-quality teaching, a friendly and supportive environment, and a strong focus on practical learning. The interactive learning system encourages students to actively participate and apply what they learn.
Each course comes with a detailed course plan that clearly describes what is required to pass the course. The lecturers upload these course plans to the Moodle learning environment. The plans include course content, learning objectives, schedules, scope, student workload, and assessment criteria. This structure helps students to stay organized and understand expectations clearly.
As an engineering student, I study various technical and engineering-related subjects. What is expected of me as a student is discipline, commitment, and a strong willingness to learn. Savonia provides us with excellent resources and a great deal of academic freedom. In return, I believe we should not take these opportunities for granted but instead work hard and perform to the best of our abilities.
Before moving to Finland, I thought that the weather would be one of the biggest challenges, especially since I came with my family. However, to my surprise, we adjusted very well. With good planning and the right mindset, we were able to overcome this challenge smoothly.
I strongly believe that if we plan carefully and stay focused on our goals, we can overcome any obstacle, break barriers, and continue moving forward in life.
After graduation, I plan to continue my education through higher studies. At the same time, if I get the opportunity to work with a Finnish company, it would be a great chance for me to apply what I have learned in a practical environment.
Since I have received a high-quality education, I feel a sense of gratitude and responsibility to give my best service to Finland. I aim to play a meaningful role in the IT industry. I know that this requires strong commitment and hard work, and I truly believe that I can achieve it.
I am highly motivated to enhance my existing skills and gain new ones in order to remain competitive in the job market. I also strive to be a professional with strong teamwork and leadership qualities, while maintaining simplicity and humility.
My main advice to future students is to plan carefully when choosing a field of study. Savonia provides everything needed for effective learning, but success depends on having a clear plan and focus. Think carefully about what you want to study and what you plan to do after graduation. With clear goals, dedication, and consistent effort, opportunities will naturally come your way.
